A Day in the Life of a Small-Town Assistant: Monday Edition

Hello and welcome back to the fourth post of the, “A Day in the Life of a Small-Town Assistant” series! I hope you enjoy 🙂

40–Good morning, world! Unlike most days where I have my typical morning routine, Monday is my day off, so I have the benefit of being able to take my time waking up and scrolling through social media a little longer than normal. Also, I know some of you may be thinking, “What?! It’s your day off and you still wake up at 6:40am??”, but that’s just how I function! I’m a morning person through and through; unless I need to be awake before 6:30 (which is very, very rare) I don’t need to set an alarm because I naturally wake up between 6:30-7:30am (even after a late night…it’s a blessing and a curse).

15–I cut myself off from social media, made myself a cup of tea (vanilla tea with a splash of vanilla soy-almond milk) and finished up doing some preliminary planning for my best friend’s bachelorette party! Even though I am already dreading the day I leave this place, I have some very exciting things to look forward to in May and the beginning of June 🙂

15–I was on quite the tea kick today, as I sat down with cup of tea number two (lemon and honey this time) to catch up on on all my daily journaling and scheduled out my week in my planner.

05–I couldn’t be bothered to do any of my serious work (ie. lesson planning and my online class), so instead, I make a rough draft of my vacances d’hiver itinerary. Since we officially booked the AirBnb’s this weekend, I can officially announce the vacances d’hiver travel destinations are: Besançon (France)-Basel (Switz.)-Bern (Switz.)-Geneva (Switz.)-Annecy (France)-Lyon (France)!! Y’all, to say I am excited about this trip is an understatement; I’m bouncing off the walls with anticipation! From Lyon, we also might make a day trip or two to some surrounding cities (I have dreams of visiting Grenoble!), so all in all, I’m expecting to have an amazing and relaxing vacation. After I finished up with the travel itinerary, I found and booked train/Flixbus tickets for my weekend in Paris, which will be the first weekend in February. I was not feeling my best this morning, so I ate a late and smallish breakfast of a banana and a small apple with PB over the course of the hour.

20–I finally found some motivation to do work, so I scheduled out my classes for the week and got to work on my Tuesday lesson plans. If the lesson is successful, I might share the Prezi link on the blog so other assistants can use it too. It’s all about sites and monuments in the US.

45–I took a short break from creating my Prezi to prep a bunch of vegetables for the week and to get my lunch cooking.

10–Return to the Prezi! I had visions of a beautiful Prezi in my head and I severely underestimated the amount of time it would take me to create…nevertheless, I persisted!

35–I was way too hungry to keep working, so I sat down to have lunch and talk with T a bit. My lunch included 2 fried eggs with a bit of cheese (I promise they are underneath the pile of vegetables!) and a bunch of roasted potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I inhaled this in approximately 4 minutes…whoops! After lunch, I did some dishes and ate dessert (aka, an orange).

00–And, we’re back to the Prezi, with another cup of tea of course (mint tea this time!) 🙂

00–I FINALLY finished the Prezi! After this, I threw my previously prepped/cut vegetables into the oven and “got ready for the day” (on my days off, all that means is that I finally change out of my pajamas and put on my clothes for the gym later that evening).

15–Even though the Prezi was finished, I went back to my computer so I could create the worksheets and handouts to accompany the presentation for Tuesday.

05–I’m finally done with the lesson plans!

15–I highly considered just reading Harry Potter, but instead I started working on my online class (which I have been severely procrastinating on as of recently).

00–Every Monday, I tutor a student from the lycée for an hour. For this session, we did a lot of speaking practice and reading comprehension with the help of some CNN News articles.

20–After tutoring, it was time to head to the gym, but not before a nice little pre-workout piece of chocolate 🙂

45–Gym time! The gym owner finally returned from his Christmas travels, so it was crazy busy in there, but good nonetheless.

00–L, being the gentleman that he is, graciously drove me home from the gym and once home, I showered and did my usual nightly routine.

40–I sat down with dinner (goat’s milk yogurt-granny smith apple-trail mix-cinnamon-almond milk), worked on my online class/tried to figure out my French SSN and carte vitale situation. I have a hefty bill from the hospital as the result of my pinky vs. ceramic knife accident and I have received no information about my French SSN aside from the temporary number I have on my pay slip. Thankfully, I will be heading back to the hospital today to see if they can help me get this figured out.

25–And just like that, it’s time to sleep!

Thanks for reading and check back later this week for more!

Until next time,
