Monthly Recap: February

I’m 99% sure I blinked on February 1st and when I opened my eyes, it was February 28th…seriously, where did the month go?! This has been a super fun month and I’m excited to share my February recap with y’all!

In The Classroom
For EJ’s classes, things have been a little different this month. As she is now on maternity leave, her replacement for the rest of the year simply requested my presence in the classroom so that I could help him get a feel for the classes.  So this month, I’ve just been working with him in the classroom in whatever capacity he requested, which mostly consisted of my answering a few student questions and sharing my opinion when he asked for it.

In L’s classes, I’ve kept up with my experimental lessons. This month, I’ve done a “Let’s Go on a Road Trip” (USA monuments) lesson, a presentation about Valentine’s Day, and a presentation titled “Ship wrecked” where the students had to work together to decide who they should keep on and who they should kick off their lifeboat.

For DL’s classes, I’ve continued with the ordering coffee lessons and helping a class as they learn about travel. We’ve moved on from “The Idea of Progress” and are now focusing on “Spaces and Exchanges”. In one class, I am having students look at a vignette and work together to write a story based on what they think is going on in the picture.

Destinations
This was a huge month of travel for me! I spent the first weekend of February in Paris and then for the vacances d’hiver, I travelled to Besançon, Bâle, Bern, Geneva, Annecy, and Lyon (those recaps are coming soon!).

What I’m Reading
I’ve been on such a good reading schedule but because I wasn’t traveling alone for the vacances d’hiver, I’ve only made it halfway through Harry Potter et l’Ordre du PhénixI have 500 pages left and I’ll (fingers crossed) be able to finish it by the end of next week.

What I’m Listening To
If I’m being honest, I’ve hardly listened to any podcasts or music this month and can honestly say that I don’t have a favorite podcast for February.

What I’m Watching
While I’ve hardly read or listened to anything, I have watched a lot of Netflix this month! I finished rewatching Stranger Things and watched all of Stranger Things Two and La Casa de Papel. I have absolutely zero complaints about all the Netflix I watched–everything was so good!

Frenchy Firsts

  • This is the first vacances where I didn’t get a cold during or directly afterwards, and I consider that not only a first but a win in my book.
  • I went to my first (and second) European zoo and they were both lovely! While of course they were really no different for every zoo I’ve ever visited in the US ever, it was still a good time 🙂
  • I had so many foodie firsts: authentic fondue, a ramen restaurant, homemade risotto, blood sausage, wild boar sausage, îles flottant…ugh, yum yum yum!!

Thanks for reading my February recap and check back later this week for more!

Until next time,

Michaela

Hey there!! It’s great to hear from you and I hope you’re doing well too! love seeing all your travel photos on Instagram—you seem like you’re having a wonderful time 🙂 The Ship Wreck lesson works well with terminales, if you’re stuck in a lesson planning funk. Since I’ve read HP in English, it actually makes reading it in French easier because I can guess what unknown words mean based on context. I hope you have an incredible week!!
