Vacances Scolaires Recap #2: London, England

Hello and welcome to the second vacances scolaires London recap! Without further ado, let’s get started!

Mercredi 28 mars 2018
After waking up, getting ready, and eating some cereal for breakfast, we made it to our meeting point and aboard the bus. We made it to the city and had a two-hour bus tour around the city. Please excuse the water-streaked pictures – there’s only so much you can do on a bus tour in the middle of rain showers.

Once we finished the tour, we were dropped off to eat our packed lunch before dividing into our small groups. Our first excursion was to the Churchill Museum, which was unbelievably interesting!

Unfortunately, I went a little too slowly through the museum so I wasn’t able to make it all the way through the audio guide, but I would really recommend the museum if you are ever in London!

Next, we walked a bit up the street and visited the National Gallery. This museum, like the Imperial War Museum, is a free museum and it was pretty cool! They had a small exhibition about Degas, which I very much enjoyed, and there was a lot to see.

After the National Gallery, we walked back to the bus, got bused to the meeting point, and went back to our host family’s home. We ate Chinese take-a-way for dinner and then I packed up my bags and took a nice long shower before heading to sleep.

On Thursday morning, we enjoyed one last breakfast with our host before grabbing our bags and heading to the bus for our final day in London.

We took the bus to Greenwich to visit Greenwich Park and the Royal Observatory.

We got to the museum about an hour before it opened so the other teachers and I had a hot drink at a cafe in the park. I ordered a chai tea latte and it was one of the best I’ve ever had.

We were able to visit the museum for about an hour and even though it is meant for kids, I liked it a lot! I’m a secret astronomy nerd, so it was right up my alley 🙂

We boarded the bus once again and the driver dropped us off at the metro station. It took us an hour and a half, but we were successfully able to navigate all 84 students through the metro and to the British Museum.

We ate our packed lunch inside the museum and had 2 hours to explore the museum independently.

After the British Museum, we again gathered the students and walked to our final London destination: the Convent Garden! We had quite a bit of time to walk around, shop, and explore. Unfortunately, we had a situation with a student that resulted in her at the hospital after fainting (don’t worry – she ended up being okay!), so after working through that situation, we gathered together the students for a check-in and released them to eat dinner.

Us profs ended up eating at Honest Burger, where I ordered a chicken sandwich and fries – it was yummy and I would recommend it! Next time in London, I’d love to go somewhere like Nando’s, Prêt a Manger, or fish and chips at a pub for a truly British meal.

After the second student check-in, L and I hung out with some students and enjoyed some Starbuck’s hot chocolates. After the final student check-in, we walked to our bus meeting point and after waiting 20 minutes, we were able to board the bus and be on our way for Clamecy.

Thanks for reading the second London recap post and check back soon for more!

Until next time,

Michaela
