4 Days in Lyon

Between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, L and I spent 4 wonderful days exploring Lyon. While neither of us are strangers to the city (this was my third visit and L grew up close by), we both had some new experiences over the course of those 4 days. Here is a quick highlights reel of what we did.

Friday, December 28, 2018

Friday consisted of lots and lots of walking! From Vieux Lyon, we walked all the way to the Halles de Lyon, then to Part-Dieu, and then all the way back to Vieux Lyon to the apartment (this was over 17,000 steps!).

At the Halles de Lyon, we both tried something for the first time: oysters! The verdict: they weren’t terrible. I don’t think it’s something I’ll ever seek out to eat specifically, but they weren’t as bad as I thought they’d be. I’d really like to try them cooked as I’ve heard that they are better that way, but we will cross that bridge when we get there.

On Saturday afternoon, L surprised me with a trip to the spa! He had never had a professional massage before (update: he loved it) and I’d never been to a spa, so it was something completely new for both of us. We got to enjoy a Japanese bath, a steam room, a sauna, and something called an “experience shower” – essentially, it’s a shower with three different settings and depending on the setting you chose, there is different color lights, sounds, water force and temperature, and essential oils you’ll get. After an hour in the spa, we both got 30-minute massages and they were heavenly!

Sunday, December 30, 2018

Being in Lyon on a Sunday will always mean going to a Hillsong service! It was a really beautiful service and as always, the message was something that both L and I needed to hear.

After the service, we had a nice lunch in Vieux Lyon. I ordered a salade lyonnaise (a must), fish, and ice cream to finish off my meal.

Monday, December 31, 2018

For the last day of 2018, we visited the Basillica of Lyon (always breathtaking), did some Christmas shopping for my sisters, played Ticket to Ride, and ate some yummy ice cream.

My face when I realized the bakery didn’t have any more brioche aux pralines

At around 7pm, we left Lyon to go to his friend’s place for a NYE party. Miraculously, I lasted until about 3:45am before we called it quits and headed back to Thurins.

Thanks for reading and check back soon for more!

Until next time,

Michaela
