Grad School Goals & Life Updates: February

Hello everyone and happy February (aka the month L comes to visit for 2 weeks!!). Can you believe we are already in month #2 of 2019? Wow, time is flying.

I’m going to start this post out being completely honest – I don’t even want to recap my January goals with y’all because, while I did complete most of them, only being into my school routine for two and a half weeks doesn’t make for much excitement on the goal completion front. So instead of boring y’all with my January goals progress, let’s just jump straight into my goals and life updates for February! On y va!

Grad School Goals – February

(1) Self-Care/Personal

  • Don’t skip church or bible study this month
    • We’re bringing this goal back from my October goals post. My #1 personal intention from my 2019 Goals and Resolutions post was to put God first, and I’m obviously not putting Him first if I skip either of these commitments.
  • Read three books for fun
    • We recently acquired permission to read during our shifts at one of my jobs, which is a real game-changer! I’m currently working on Dare to Lead by Bréne Brown and I’ll be reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte after that 🙂
  • Work on my 8-minute mile goal
    • Given that I’m still pretty far from achieving this goal, this month I am going to focus on getting to the point where I can consistently run a 9-minute mile. I’ll be doing this through 20-minute speed work runs, crosstraining, and testing my one-mile run at least twice a week.

(2) Academia

  • Make a good start on my research with a professor
    • Yup, you read that right – I’m starting to do research with/for a professor this semester! I’m super pumped to get started. In my role, I’ll be focusing on writing the introduction and literature review sections of the paper.
  • Decide on a place to do my MSW internship for the Fall
    • I’m in the process of doing interviews with all the agencies/organizations I’ve expressed interest in working with for the fall (2 interviews down, 2 or 3 to go!). I already know it’s going to be tough for me to figure out exactly where I’m being lead to serve, so prayers for me in this process would be very much appreciated.

(3) Finances & Others

  • Give myself grace with my spending this month
    • I think it’s obvious that I’ve been pretty very strict with my spending habits since the beginning of grad school. However, with L visiting at the end of the month, I’ll most likely be spending more money than normal as we go out on dates and do fun things together. Therefore, I want to give myself grace to spend a little bit more than normal – the money will come back eventually and those moments together are priceless.
  • Pay loans and rent on time
    • I know this has been a very repetitive goal on my blog, but it helps to keep me accountable to do so (more so with the loans than the rent, since the latter is an obligation and I don’t technically need to be paying off my loans yet)

Life Updates

  1. Now that we are officially in the month of February, I finally feel comfortable announcing where I’ll be studying abroad in May! Drum roll, please…I’m heading to Greece for two weeks this May!! I am SO excited to learn and explore this beautiful country!
  2. As I’ve noted multiple times in the blog post, L will be here to visit in less than two weeks (love you, mon chéri <3). I’m pumped for him to be here and hopefully I’ll be able to write a few posts about our mini adventures.

Thanks for reading and come back soon for more.

Until next time,
