France – High Highs and Low Lows

Hello and welcome to my third France travel recap post! If you missed parts one (find that here) or two (that one is here), feel free to go back and read those first.

I know you all are just d y i n g to know what happened when I left my post last week on such a cliffhanger, so here we go!

From Christmas afternoon until the 29th was a blur of headaches, body aches, fevers, and a very upset gastrointestinal system. I was on a strict regimen of bread, rice, and ham for practically every meal, I took a lot of naps, and spent tons of time just resting. After a visit to the (very attractive) doctor and a prescription for some painkillers for my headaches, I got to feeling better within a number of days. While it was absolutely not ideal, it did force me to use my time in France in the exact way I should have: As a true break with true and authentic rest from everything after a very long semester.

Thankfully, by the time New Years Eve rolled around, I was feeling much, much better and I got to enjoy an awesome raclette dinner with L and all his friends. And this year was especially fun because a few of his friends have had babies in the past few months, so I got to spend quite a bit of time cuddling and loving on those little ones.

January 1, 2020

We got back late on NYE, so we spent the majority of New Year’s Day just chilling and hanging around. We had a really nice lunch with different types of seafood and I absolutely DOMINATED in a round of Ticket to Ride. L and I watched Big Bang Theory (love French Netflix) and Ready Player One (SO disappointing – the book is so good but the movie just sucks in comparison. Plus it hardly follows the book plot.)

January 2 – 4, 2020

Sadly, my sickly saga continued on the evening of the 2nd. We were supposed to leave for Clamecy the next day (Friday), but I ended up getting violently ill on Thursday night and we made the executive decision to stay in Thurins for the rest of the weekend. It wasn’t ideal, but it did give both L and I some extra time to spend with his parents, which ended up being fruitful despite being sickly.

January 5 – 6, 2020

We finally made our way back to Clamecy the afternoon of the 5th, making it back in time to have a quick cup of tea with a colleague and a relaxing evening together.

On Monday morning, it was back to work for L and a day of packing, relaxing, and exploring for me. After getting all my ducks in a row and waiting for L to get home from work, I decided to take advantage of the beautiful day and go for a long walk around town. It did not disappoint.

I know Clamecy isn’t anything special to a lot of people, but it will always be one of my favorite places.

When L got home from work, we had a relaxing dinner and indulged ourselves in watching the French version of “Married at First Sight”. I hate to say it, but it was actually so interesting and intriguing to watch. It is genuinely upsetting to me that I can’t watch it the rest of the season with L and his family (he, his mom and sister are really into the show and text each other while they’re watching…sorry for exposing this to the world, babe ❤ ). Alas, I’ll keep relying on L’s weekly updates to get my fix.

And that’s it for recap #3! Thanks for reading and check back next week for the final installment.

Until next time,
