On Repeat

I will be the first to admit that if I had to make the choice between only listening to podcasts or music for the rest of my life, I’d choose podcasts, no questions asked. It’s not that I don’t like music – I don’t think you can be in band for seven years and hate music – but unless I’m studying, writing, or trying to focus on a task (aka I need non-lyrical background noise), I very rarely choose to listen to music “just because”…but in the last two weeks, I’ve felt myself gravitating back toward what speaks to my soul, which in this case, is music. That’s right – I’ve dusted off the good ‘ole Spotify account and *shocker* actually made myself a playlist. Maybe next I’ll upgrade to Premium? It’s a wild world out there.

These are some of the songs that have motivated, inspired, and ignited this passion all over again – Here’s what’s been on repeat.

  1. Stupid Deep by Jon Bellion

I am thoroughly obsessed with this song (and specifically, this acoustic version linked above). I am not joking when I say I have listened to this song at least 2-3x a day for the past two weeks – I’m quite literally listening to it as I write this post. The lyrics, his voice, its simplicity and depth…10/10. I only wish it were longer than 2m40s so I could thoroughly soak it all in.

2. Graves Into Gardens by Elevation Worship

“The God of the mountain is the God of the valley” Man, that lyric hits hard and hits home. This worship song has most definitely been a top listen for me lately.

3. Lost in Japan by Shawn Mendes

I love Shawn Mendes and I am not ashamed of it in the slightest. I can honestly say there isn’t a song I don’t like of his, but Lost in Japan is one of my faves.

4. Avant toi by Slimane and Vitaa

One of my Frenchie favorites. You really can’t go wrong with a French pop love song, can you?

5. Tempo by Lizzo (ft. Missy Elliot)

I know I’m not alone on loving Lizzo, and this song works in so many contexts. Need a hype song, dance break, or workout, pump-up song? Tempo does all three.

6. Seasons by Hillsong United

This is a song I’ve come back to time and time again in this season of my life. It’s simple and so beautiful.

7. In Da Club by 50 Cent

(A) What a throwback and (B) what a solid song to run to. I can’t say I listen to this one every day, but it definitely does the trick when I need a little running motivation.

8. peace by Taylor Swift

Oh, folklore. I was unsure if I would hop on the folklore bandwagon, but I did, and it is growing on me with each listen. So far, I like the songs peace, betty, and hoax best. What are your faves from this album?

9. Roi by Balil Hassani

L introduced me to this song and I love it! It’s French, it’s English, and it’s awesome. Also he is so young but SO talented. Amazing.

10. O Come to the Alter (Live) by Elevation Worship

I had to conclude with another worship favorite. This is slowly becoming one of my favorite new worship songs and I am not mad about it in the slightest.

Thanks for reading and check back soon for more.

Until next time,

Michaela
